![]() Ron Howard's adaptation of Dan Brown's international best seller is coming to US Blu-ray in its extended form. This will be a two disc release with plenty of new extras included, plus to tie in with the forthcoming big screen release of Angels and Demons, Brown's follow-up, it will also have an exlcusive five minute section of the film complete with an introduction by Ron Howard. Here's what we'll see in the extras section: * New scene-specific commentary with Ron Howard. * BD-Live enabled with cinechat and interactive picture-in-picture features. These will include interviews, b-roll footage, information on props, storyboards and trivia. * First Day on the Set with Ron Howard featurette. * The Filmaker's Journey Parts I and II featurette. * A Discussion with Dan Brown featurette. * A Portrait of Langdon featurette. * The Codes of The Da Vinci Code featurette. * Who is Sophie Neveu? featurette. * The Music of the Da Vinci Code featurette. * Book to Screen featurette. * Magical Places featurette. * The Da Vinci Props featurette. * Close-Up on Mona Lisa featurette. * The Da Vinci Sets featurette. * Re-creating Works of Art featurette. * Scoring The Da Vinci Code featurette. * The Visual Effects World of The Da Vinci Code featurette. Released on April 28th, this two disc release looks to be joined by a gift set listed on Amazon which in addition to the Blu-ray has an 'exclusive reproduction of the Cryptex used in the film and a copy of Langdon's journal.' To try and clear up exactly what we're getting here, we'll do a little investigative work ourselves. Literature provided by Sony mentions this extended cut is available for the first time and has 28 minutes of extra footage, but doesn't mention a runtime. Amazon states a 174 minute duration. This is important as an extended cut has been released before, just not in the US. Europe and other regions received a gift set similar to the new Blu-ray a while back and an extended cut of the movie, with a runtime of 167 minutes, making an extra 24 minutes over the theatrical version. Allowing for the 3 or 4 minutes PAL to NTSC conversion, it appears this Blu-ray will be an extended extended edition!
